This winter in Albany we have seen more ice then snow. It was not until recently that we had good snow, and even that is is a wet snow. We are seeing more double and triple blooms of plants in the Northeast then every before. The climate is changing.
We all know that climate changing is largely the fault of mass consumption of fossil fuels. It’s not you or my fault, it’s the fault of our society’s collective fault. Yet, it’s having a real impact not on just our enjoyment but also our economy.
The reality is that freezing rain and ice is no fun for winter driving. Until recently, we simply didn’t get much in the way of freezing rain or ice in our part of the state, but it’s changing. Not only is a growing safety hazard for drivers, it’s making it miserable for cross-country skiers or snowmobilers whose belts are shredded by banging ice for a prolonged time.
There is not much we can do now to reverse global warming, but we can certainly make choices that will reduce the speed of the changes and the depth of the changes. Our world will change greatly should we do nothing about global warming, at an even faster rate then what’s currently happening.
If we don’t act and try to make the hard choices, it might be the end of winter and summer as we know it in the Northeast. Let’s all try to do a little and pressure our leaders to do a lot.
