A Fear of CDTA rss

I don't understand what's so terrible about riding the bus.

Bikable Buses: It's great to be able to take you bike on the bus.

Mass Transit and the Emerging Oil Crisis: Taking the bus is a way to save both the environment and your truck's life.

A Fear of CDTA

People with business in the city should us the bus to get work and make trips around the city. Automobiles are too polluting to be used in urban areas, and auto use in urban areas is a serious mis-allocation of resources that could be used in fixing urban problems. Autos reinforce racism and hatred, cause horrific accidents and carnage, require the destruction of whole neighborhoods, and make urban air toxic to breathe.

I ride the bus every day to work, except when I ride my bike to work. I do not use my truck in the city. While the bus isolates me from some of the horrors that the automobile has made the modern city, when your on a bike or walking in the city, you realize what a truly destructive impact cars have on cities. Modern cities are prisoners to walls of automobile congestion on their streets.

Yet, I find many people refuse to ride the bus. They are afraid it's too slow, even though in many cases it's actually faster then finding a parking spot downtown. Others are scared of being injured or influenced by African Americans or other people that might be different then they are. People are scared of change or experiencing new ideas that might change how they look at the world today.

I tell people ride the bus for at least week, especially if it's convenient for you. Bring some headphones, a book to read or your laptop. You'll find out what a luxury it truly is to get picked up at your door and dropped off your office, without pouring a drop of gasoline in your car.
