I Like Feeling Small

Unlike many other human beings, I like feeling small and not being the dominant force in my world. You might think that's strange, being such a large guy at 6'5” and 260 lbs, but it sure feels good to be standing next to something bigger then myself.

Whether it be standing out on top of a mountain and observing a comparatively tiny city in the distance, standing next to a great lake or the ocean, or just on a hill observing the many farms and forests beneigth me, I feel so good being only a little portion of the world, and realize that while mankind has changed nature, man is still relatively powerless again it.

There are a great deal of impressive natural forces out there. I need not go into each one, but they certainly challenge mankind and his technology. Somethings we will never be able to concur, regardless of how much fossil fuels or human ingenuity we pour on to it. Man will die based on natural forces, and his own mistakes.

Man also makes impressive landscapes and can change the world in his own mold. Our landscapes have been altered by man for sure, although sometimes man doesn't realize the effects of his power. Man's changes to the natural world can impress the individual, but his changes will only only last as long as he uses his petro-chemical power to get his way.

I like many other men will continue to go to places to feel small. I will continue to visit expansive landscapes to experience the splendor of our natural world, and to feel small. I like knowing humankind is only a relatively small part of our world, and that we all are really small people.
