Mr. Ransom: Rethinking that ag teacher I hated so much in High School.
When a Friend's House Burns: A house fire brings tragedy and community.
Jean Dupuis was the Unit Representative for my Boy Scout Troop. He also was a merit badge counselor for a number of merit badges including personal fitness and others. Most importantly though, was he was a mentor for numerous Boy Scouts. He passed away in October of 2005 from a Heart Attack. A personal friend of mine, and such a support fo my Eagle Scout, it is still tough for me to think of him as gone for good.
It is amazing how fast people that you know and touch you so dearly can disappear. They can be here one day inspiring and changing you, and the next day gone. Dupuis passed away, while teaching the next generation of scouts how to be leaders. He was doing what he loved when his time came way too early to leave earth.
I remember him as a leader. He would come to scout meetings, with the latest news and information from the council. He would discuss our plans, and let us know what kind of events were going on at the district. More personally, was his advising for the Physical Fitness merit badge. I remember going over the requirements, one by one, as he would blow smoke in your face. It was an experience.
I remember his big Ford blue truck, and how he told stories of the neck strain he got from it, when he was off-roading at a scout camp and knocked the steering wheel out of alignment. He went to the doctor to find out his pain, and his mechanic was able to give him a definitive answer. Then I remember the shinny new Dodge Ram he bought to replace it. That was a very nice big ol' pickup tuck.
Many memories of Jean Dupuis have already faded. I will however remember what I great guy he is, how hard he worked at scouts, and how hard he worked at the Post Office. He was a great person, one that often is forgetten for his greatness in the time where we have super stars politicans dominating the screen. Simple people do so much for our society, yet they do such great things. Rest in Peace, Jean Dupuis.
