What about Our Domestic Problems?

You open up the paper almost every day now, and you see very little about what is going on here, in America. It seems as if the top part of every paper is devoted to the war in Iraq. This is particularly disconcerning in local papers like the Times Union, that should be most concerned about local events.

There are many issues around that deserve more attention then they are getting. We seem to be devoting so much of our attention to a far off country, for a war in which the results probably won't effect us much at all. The reason is that Iraq is sells news. It's a hot story, and everybody wants to know about it. All things considered, does Iraq matter that much in our day to day life? I doubt it when you consider the effects of significant icing on our lives. Moreover, there are so many pieces of legislation being considered in Albany that could effect our lives drastically. Nobody seems to remember that in the era of Iraq.

Few important pieces of legislation are even given 5 minutes in the news. It's like people don't care about domestic life. It seems that all they want to hear about is Iraq. People say it's ignorant not to focus on the horrible war in Iraq. Iraq is a foriegn war, far away and as such it deserves little more attention then a secondary page which the interested few read. Iraq is important to those fighting and our elected national leaders, but we need to get our priorities straight. We should remember America first. God bless.
