Government Should Not Promote Violence: Too often our government is selling us violence.

Memorial Day 2008

Today is a hot one out there. A great day for going for a dip in the creek, for a ride in the country on one's bike, or an afternoon barbecue. It's also a great time to plant a garden and get ready for a long delightful summer season.

Yet, there is a sadder reality out there. Today is Memorial Day, when we remember Veterans of current and past wars who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Those numbers continue to grow.

4,083 Americans have died in Iraq since the beginning of the war in 2003. That's nearly 1,000 more since last Memorial Day, 2007—despite overwhelming evidence of a war not going well and without a clear purpose.

Attend today's parades, salute our Veterans who have fought for our freedom. Enjoy the nice weather. But always remember the real cost of war.
