Boondocks No. 41

Rural Voters Have a Real Advantage in Presidential Primaries.

This really isn't news, but Daily Yonder has a nice round-up how the rural voice very much so matters in Presidential primaries.

So it should be. They like other minority consituencies should get a chance to have a significant voice in the Presidential selection system. The question then of course is how to do we give such a leg up to other minorities? What about to blacks and gay people? How about mechanics who work in the big city repairing big buildings? Janitors? The urban poor?

That's a more difficult question how to get those voices heard. Our consitutional system, and tradition has made it easy for rural people to be heard, but it's still not as easy for other minorities to get a voice.

100 Mile Challenge for the Capital Region.

At the Save the Pine Bush dinner last month information on 100 Mile Challenge for the Capital Region was passed along with me. I subsequently lost the paper with the link on it.

The idea of this is to try to eat local, and support local farms, rather then commodity-driven agriculture. Rather then spending so much of your money for trucking and oil, you can instead give it back to your own community. This is a concept that everybody's been talking about more lately.

As I've mentioned in the past, it's something I'm very interested in and hopefully I will learn more about it as time goes by, and possibly start towards that path when I move out in the next few weeks.
