Despite the Thruway Authority deciding to raise hikes, they've gone on the record:
“Affordable transportation is critical to New York agriculture,” said John Lincoln, president of the New York Farm Bureau, in a news release Monday.
Lincoln, of Bloomfield, said farmers in New York already are subject to the highest fees, taxes and regulations in the country. An increase in Thruway tolls would only worsen the competitive disadvantage with farmers from other states and countries.
The bureau is urging Gov. Eliot L. Spitzer and the State Legislature to remove the Canal Corporation from the Thruway’s responsibility to lessen its fiscal burdens and eliminate the need for toll hikes.
