Hayseeds No. 245

Paul Tonko.com is Registered By DC Media Firm.

For all of us hoping that Paul Tonko will get into the Congressional race, it seems that a Washington media firm has registered a domain that would suggest that Tonko will soon announce that he will be running for Congress.

I sure hope so. He would be a truly great Congressperson, better the dribble we've been hearing about so far. And now that Brian Stratton is out, and there is only one candidate who can unify the party, and ensure that the 21st district will remain in strong Democratic hands.

The Latest Authority Misdeed.

Did you see this article about the Dormitory Authority's Day Out of the Office to go a lecture on computer basics and office efficiency, complete with a nice stay at the Marriott?

I don't know how legitimate this all way. I suspect the newspaper wrote the article mostly to throw dirt, rather then make serious policy statement.

Tonko Isn't Really Running.

At least that story that I reported on Monday may not be as true as some of would have hoped with Paul Tonko.com being registered.

It seems that Tracy Brook's campaign consultant bought up names for anybody that they thought could be an opponent, so to get more hits to her website.

I'd say it's a pretty dirty trick and probably kind of illegal. Of course Tracy Brooks had this to say about it:

“Tracey Brooks has spent the last seven days visiting farmers, seniors, small business owners, manufacturing companies, technology learning centers and families across all seven counties of the 21st Congressional District talking about the issues that really matter to people. As for the real ‘serious issues’ like successfully ending the war in Iraq, successfully passing meaningful legislation that will bring more jobs, better security, broader health care coverage and a better quality of life for all the people of the Capital Region, Tracey Brooks is already out there talking about real issues and change while others remain silent.”

It seems awful sleezy to me. And according to some of the other bloggers, also purty illegal.

So far I've been quite impressed with Phil Steck who just put up a fully complete website tonight. He seems like a great guy, and not ready to play stupid tricks or ponder to farmers, from his house in the suburbs. He also has a ton of endorsements:

He's not Paul Tonko. But I think Tonko is quite happy as being the energy guru for the state, rather then continuing the grueling campaign schedule that it takes to be Congressman. I can't blame Tonko for not running, or at least be very trepid about running.

See SoundPolitic's Daily KOs Entry about how the media already loves Hillary-ite Tracy Brooks, and is ignoring Phil Steck, whose already done much to work for the endorsement.

That 1970s Show.

Paul Krugman seems to think that things will be very bad for the next President when it comes to the economy, with both Republicans and Democrats falling into traps that will destroy their change of re-election.

He's predicting not a Carter-style economy with very bad inflation, as there isn't the same kind of wage-price spiral of back in the 1970s, and we are about half as less dependent on energy for economic output, but he sees a recession worst then what we saw in the early-1990.

In Oswego for Aubertine.

That's where I currently am, spending the night at a local hotel, after spending a day going door to door and making phone calls, trying to remind and get out the vote to greatest extent for our newest New York State Senator Darrel Aubertine.

Aubertine is truly a great guy. He's a bit shy, but very friendly and with some great ideas for our state. He will continue his legacy in the Assembly as he moves forward in the Senate. And the Republicans are pretty darn scared that he's going to win.

So I look forward to tommorow, working hard to get out the vote. Oswego is great, and I need to get some sleep and sober up before campaigning tommorow.
