With 17% of the student body at Plattsburgh State turning out (a record for off-year elections—non-student association fee renewal years), students said yes to creating an optional student fee that will create a green or renewable energy fund for renewable energy projects on campus.
While it was only covered by the campus media and WPTZ Channel 5, this seems like a pretty innovative project. Many of us worked very hard to make this reality, including myself the campaign manager. We got out the vote, and we now have a clear mandate to make green energy at reality in Plattsburgh.
So I'm excited. I did a lot of work, and to see it pay out big time is great. Of course the 300+ signs we had across campus (ie. one sign for every twenty students or one sign for three every voters) really paid off. All it really cost me was 50¢ for the roll of tape and the money for the domain name that I was reimbursed.
Apparently some towing companies in Albany have been engaging in the rather corrupt pratice of giving money back to lot owners for where they are towing from. Apparently that's legal under state law, even if it's pretty unethical to say the least.
In other words, he really doesn't know what to do with Alan and it's a real pain for his office. Some people are rumoring that Governor Spitzer is pressuring him, though we really can't prove that either which way.
The TU takes a look at Lake Electronics out there on Centeral Avenue, the place that fixes electronic devices, in an era where more and more of these devices are becoming toxic waste and not being repaired.
It looks like the Capital Region Transportation Committee is looking into buying a remanufactured self-propelled railroad car to provide a commuter rail service from Saratoga to Albany, allowing commuters to quickly travel in ease from both locations.
That would be a great alternative to the Adirondack Northway and even the existing NX bus service, that sometimes get stuck in traffic. Like it or not, the Northway is unlikely ever to expand, and we need a way to get people from Saratoga to Albany. If Albany wasn't such a hell hole, then maybe people would live there, but that's a long ways away and will require some significant political changes.
It looks like while not setting a time-table, they have ever so conviently planned to get the troops home for the Presidential election, which probably is a start, assuming they don't back out when things become even greater of a disaster in Iraq.
The County Legislature in an effort to cut costs announced that it would no longer be keeping David Soares' top investigator into Hevesi. They of course said that decision was non-political and just a cost savings measure.
The great Congresswomen from NY-20 is now on the committee that decides the direction of the House Democrats that are now in power. It's great to think that the Hudson Valley is once against relevant in US politics and that many things like Hudson dredging will finally get done.
