Monday Brings a Mix of Emotions. I woke up in the back of my pickup this morning to the rain pouring on the fiberglass cap and on the roof of cab of the truck. The sheet metal being hit by rain sounds destinctively different then the fiberglass. It's just so nice to sleep in the back of my pickup when it's hot out at night, and look for hours at the stars. This is how my Monday started on out in peace but with discord.
By day break, it was getting warm with the days' tempeture to revial Sunday's hot weather. It was steamy, but a bit grey without the beautiful sun that wakes me up almost every morning in my truck. In some ways I feel hung over from the blitz that was the weekend, from the Democratic Rural Conference to going canoeing on Sunday. I can't say whether getting dragged on the dance floor by Assemblyman Tom DiNappoli of the EnCon committee, listening to David Patterson's speech on the end of cheap oil and our of agrian future, Andy Cuomo's desert reception, or Frank Mururo of the Fiscal Policy Insitute's speech on fisical mess was the highlight of the weekend.
The sights and smells of the morning seem relevant on my mind. I noticed how the slurry on the fields around was still noticable to the nose, though not as offensive as in the past. It has been rainswept. I passed by another farm burning trash, smelling the burning plastic, black smoke, and yellow flames. The final product of conspicous consumption. I got out of my truck, and took the Voorhesville Bus downtown. I was wisped in front of the ESP on the ESP aterial, and saw a skyline full of concerete and steel. Beautiful, but so ugly compared to the country. I got off at South Swan and Washington, and walked along piles of garbage mixed with recyclables destine for the Rapp Road dump.
It looks like the afternoon is going out with a bang. Lots of thunder around and it was fun to watch the storm come in from 14th floor of Commerce Plaza. The windows bowed in about an inch, and the traffic lights where blowing around. Some trash must have blown 400 feet into the air over the west lawn of the Capitol. P'Link
