Another hot and humid fall day in Upstate New York. While we had some nice weather on Sunday, it was also fairly warm on Saturday.
I spent a lot of time on Saturday working on the truck panels project that when done will provide many things—a shelf for storage, a table for working in, a safe, private, and warm place for sleeping when driving cross-country.
It was a great relaxing weekend, even if it went by way too quickly. Sunday I went up to Partridge Run then some of the hills above it to take some pictures and go for a short hike. It was nice, although I wish I had spent more time out in the woods and less working on cutting wood, and planing it down to make things fix.
Today's fodder article will be posted later today. It's topic has yet to be decided, although I have many different drafts on my laptop that I could when I want. It's possible the topic will be on the Iranian President's visit to New York City.
Other then that, enjoy your Monday.
It's going to be up to around 89 °F at least in the city here. Pretty warm for September 25th—especially figuring that October is only 5 days away. You have to wonder what the impact of this persistantly higher temperatures, and the role that global warming will play in it.
It looks like the grand roundabout in front of the Price Chopper in Slingerlands will open later this week if not this weekend. It's mostly done except for striping, landscaping, and the curbing/paving for the approaches where traffic currently reside.
Tonight I continue to work on my truck cap projects for camping. What is done so far works pretty good, but there is a lot of wood that still needs to be cut, and their needs to be slight modification to the side rails that I discovered after about a week of driving on bumpy dirt roads.
I signed up for the Young Democrats Conference this morning in Manchester, NH during the weekend of November 16-18th. This is only about two months before the big New Hampshire Primary, so it will be a great chance to meet and hear many of the Presidential candidates. It promises to be great fun.
Tommorow is County Legislator Bill Alwyard's fundraiser. It should be great fun, and it's important to hold on to his seat out in Altamont.
It's raining out so I'm hanging out at the library, playing on my laptop for a little while. I'll probably go home in a bit and work on my truck, or maybe just sit in the bed of my truck, listen to the rain pounding on the cap, and do some reading or just listening to NPR.
Right now I'm digging the Friends of Distinction's Grazing on the Grass. Talk about a classic song for Cowboy to be listening to.
Last night was County Legislator Bill Aylward's fundraiser at the Altamont Manor. Talk about a beautiful house, and some nice food. A bit strange with Dave Bosworth and Pat Slavick there after the election, at least for me, but it was great fun to see all those Guilderland Democrats out there. That race is bound to be harder then many of us would have thought—Brendan Quinn is apparently consulting the Albany County GOP that desperately wants a foothold somewheres.
I recently was hired by the New York State Assembly. That's about all I will ever say about that, much less who I work for or what I really do there. It should be great fun though and a learning experience, plus there are state benefits involved.
My ATM card still doesn't work, despite calling the bank twice. They mailed me the wrong PIN number the first time. Go figure. You gotta love Citizens Bank. I'm seriously thinking about switching over to SEFCU or Key Bank.
That's the new banner on Cowboy, which I think represents what this fall is looking like for me.
We are getting a little rain, leading to a nice weekend. We really need the rain, and it was refreshing to listen to the rain on the roof of my truck cap, particularly after waking in hte dark at 5 AM after setting the alarm clock incorrectly.
It has been amazingly warm lately, which is not a bad thing when you basically living out the back of your pickup truck on your parents' farm. There probably is only one day in several weeks where I remember it being cold when I first got up, and openned the cap rear window, and dropped the tailgate down.
I still hate getting up in the dark, despite all the CFL lights I have in the back of the truck, which make the world look a lot brighter in the morning then it really is. Now that the truck cap panels project is about halfway done, it has become a really nice place for camping out.
I will be busy this weekend. Saturday I will be out in Syracuse for what is being called the biggest peace ralley in Upstate New York since Vietnam, and on Sunday I'll be back in Guilderland knocking doors for County Legislator Bill Aylward.
The following weekend, October 6-7 I will likely be up in Plattsburgh, hiking Pok-o-Moonshine, and visting all my old haunts. I'll either camp up on Pok-o-Moonshine, or in my truck in Peru State Forest. I wonder if they've cleaned up the disgusting illegal dumping at Peru State forest.
October 8th is likely when I'll be starting with the Assembly.
October 27-28 I'll be out in Rochester, seeing the city, and walking some districts for the County Leg people out there. It should be great fun, as explore a part of the state I've never been to before. Unforuntately the can of worms was replaced before I could get out and see it.
Finally, I'm looking for an apartment. Not sure if I want to be sleeping in my truck when snow flies. That big clump of snow when I open the truck window in the morning could be very cold. I honestly have no idea what I am looking for, how much to pay, and where I want to live.
I want to live minimally, and I would like to use mass-transit for part of my commute at least part of the time. I hate commuting, and would much rather sit back on a bus and play on my laptop. I'm not sure I'm ready for Center Square, where moving stuff from my truck to apartment would be diffiuclt, and I certainly don't want to live in the Ghetto.
